Traditionally, organizations and offices hold retreats to provide a venue for action—strategic planning, funding decisions, visioning, team and organization development.
They also contract for training in concepts and skills as a separate event. Finally, they seek coaching to help them work together more effectively.
The Blended Retreat provides three parallel developmental results at the same event:
- Action planning
- Skills Development
- Relationship Building
Not only is this a more effective use of training and facilitation resources, it provides a platform where the level of involvement, learning, and clear progress is unmatched. And the skills development and relationship building last because they contribute to the task everyone is working on simultaneously.
The Blended Retreat is a customized, balanced model focusing on measurable outcomes in the three vital areas for every organization: Product (a deliverable, tangible result); Process (improving communication by removing impediments to candor and understanding); and People (skills that have an immediate impact, both during the session and after, on the group’s ability to be functional and productive).
Action Planning includes (but is not limited to):
- Budget and resource allocation
- Policy re-alignment
- Structural shaping
- Change management
- Demographic changes (succession planning)
- Strategic/tactical revisions and generation
- Creating a decision-making matrix
Skills Development may include:
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Listening for understanding
- Using consensus appropriately
- Managing conflict
- Speaking and writing more clearly
- Critical thinking for Wicked Problems
- Creative problem solving
Relationship building includes:
- Understanding preference (vis à vis the MBTI©; Ntrinsx©; Communication Style: My Impact on Others©; The Solution Preference Inventory©; Values: The Driver of Conflict and Collaboration©).
- Developing and applying principles of Emotional Intelligence
- Measuring and improving team dynamics
- Creating more effective meetings
- Clearing up misconceptions about roles and accountability
- Removing Lizard Logic from interaction
